Panic Panda’s creation delivers a charmingly weird simulation that values atmosphere and personality over depth. Its satisfying cooking mechanics, memorable PS1-inspired aesthetic and horrifyingly ridiculous premise make it a worthwhile curiosity for those looking for something different. That said, those expecting genuine horror, meaningful exploration or deeper mechanical experimentation may leave disappointed, making Meat Grinder a neat novelty that, while recommended, ultimately falls short of its deliciously twisted potential.

Meat Grinder’s gameplay isn’t enough to support the narrative, and the narrative isn’t enough to support the gameplay. The unfortunate part is that, with a little effort, either would be fine enough to stand on their own. And it isn’t difficult to imagine either being more than fine. Turning people into hot dogs is always a good time, but doing that, tacking on a transparent-thin story, and then calling it a day, isn’t appetizing. There’s very little meat on this bun. For that matter, there’s very little bun.

Meat Grinder: Hot Dog Simulator is one of those games where the concept is probably more entertaining than the experience. I genuinely enjoyed the first couple of hours, and the idea of running a hot dog shop by day while sourcing your own meat by night is bloody ridiculous in the best way. Unfortunately, the gameplay loop became too repetitive too quickly, and once that novelty wore off, I found myself getting majorly bored.
