Ambrosia Sky: Act Two Reviews
Act Two doesn’t completely reinvent what Act One started, and I don’t really think it needs to. What it does do is bring the story closer to where it needs to land, while at the same time keeping the same satisfying, meditative gameplay loop intact. I do wish there had been a little more of a power curve with the tools and puzzles, but even with that, I still enjoyed this a lot. This is the type of game I can already see myself replaying later just to catch details I may have missed the first time, and of course, just sit with the amazing story again. It’s thoughtful, eerie, and weirdly comforting in that “I’m cleaning up a disaster while also having feelings about it” kind of way. So yeah… I liked Act Two a lot. Maybe just a little less than Act One, but only because I wanted it to push a little harder in places. Still, it’s a really lovely ending to the story, and it’s clear a lot of care went into it. Definitely worth the adventure, so be sure to pick this one up on Steam.
For returning players who rinsed through the first half of the game back in November, that’s an excellent hook to bring them back to see the story through to its conclusion. For new players, it’s a big ask to tell them that the game doesn’t really reach its fullest potential until you’ve played for around 5 or 6 hours. Not that the stages or narrative in Act One were bad, per se, but more that Ambrosia Sky doesn’t really start gripping you until you’re deep into the second act.
Ambrosia Sky Act Two is a fitting conclusion that introduces enough new twists to set it apart from the first act. There are a couple of navigational issues, but the oddly relaxing sensation of spraying down fungus combined with the many mechanics surrounding that central conceit are certainly worth experiencing. If you want to power wash some dangerous growths in a melancholy sci-fi world, I think Ambrosia Sky: Act Two will be right up your alley.
