Normal Golf Game takes a simple, standard, and, dare I say, normal sport and turns it into something that is frustrating beyond belief. If you are someone who will actively scream and throw a mouse across the room, I don’t suggest getting this game, but if you can keep a level head, go out onto the green, and smack the ball around for a while without feeling the sting of annoyance each time you miss a shot, then you should check out Normal Golf Game. The developer did a fantastic job at making the game just rewarding enough that if you can survive the mind-numbing repetitiveness of swinging a club over and over, then you may just scream in excitement when you sink that putt, or at the very least give yourself a small golf clap.
Normal Golf Game manages to make its frustrating gameplay loop feel inviting and approachable, and due to how well it teaches you its mechanics, and how it presents its many optional objectives once you beat its long tutorial. It might look cheap, some of its jokes might not always land, but for the most part, I appreciated its sense of humor. In no moment did I feel like quitting this bizarre little sports game.
That seems to be the prevailing feeling towards Normal Golf Game as I sit and think about it. It’s maddening, frustrating, and simply ridiculous at times, and yet, all I want to do is keep playing and trying the harder challenges. I wouldn’t go so far to say it’ll be a game of the year contender, but it absolutely will be one of my most memorable experiences, and one that I’d recommend without hesitation.
