Dinocide from AtomicTorch is a throwback to the NES era of gaming in more ways than just its 8-bit style graphics - it also has plenty of archaic, frustrating gameplay.
Dinocide isn't a bad game but it isn't particularly noteworthy either. It has a couple good idea but the platforming is fairly rudimentary and very derivative. With a few content updates it might become something better, but as it stands Dinocide feels like it's still stuck in early access.
Make just a few simple mistakes and you're kicked back to the map, losing whichever gear you may have brought into your last attempt.
Dinocide is both a shameless and halfhearted recreation of other titles as well as a ripoff for all gamers with its criminally short length and crummy gameplay. Avoid this one at all costs.
Perhaps if the team had aimed for a visual style just a bit more detailed, they could have landed on an aesthetic that really stood out, but unfortunately the dead-eyed caveman stare just doesn't do it for me. With some more varied weapons, a bit of a re-balancing on the health situation, and some re-arranging of stages so that they come along by theme rather than at random, Dinocide could have something going for it, but as it stands, I'm afraid it's just not noteworthy.
Dinocide shows an incredible amount of promise at the beginning, but it simply does nothing with the ideas it presents. It meanders around aimlessly, never accomplishing a thing, and seems to exist solely to torment those who want an accurate NES platforming experience. This prehistoric nightmare just can't deliver on that.
