First Light is a DLC that has everything working for it: standalone status, great character, great story, and amazing gameplay. Expanding on a game that was made to feel fun first, it does everything right and then some. Building on what the series already established, and even fixing some of the less desirable issues, inFAMOUS First Light manages to feel familiar yet also like a new game. If this is any indication of what to expect from Sucker Punch, I am definitely looking forward to what comes out of this studio next
inFamous First Light is a great addition to the franchise and I for one hope that we see more of Fetch because she's definitely one of the most interesting and likeable characters of year. The story of this DLC works well, even though it does jump around and the gameplay is just as flawless from inFamous Second Son that not only looks amazing on the PS4 but sounds phenomenal.
Her imprisonment and Sucker Punch's use of a familiar location at the crux of this story breathe new life into neon-powered gameplay loops that had already proven themselves one of the best open-world mechanics yet.
As far as DLC goes, First Light is a fantastic piece of work. If you enjoyed Second Son then this game is a must buy. The experience is short, but overall I was very happy with the purchase. With such a big shortage of good quality games on the consoles at the moment, First Light is a welcome addition to the games library.
If you're hesitating about whether or not to pick up inFAMOUS: Second Son, this is a great sample and precursor. Those who have already played it will enjoy learning about one of Second Son's most interesting characters.
First Light is an excellent introduction to the inFAMOUS series for new players, and series fans will enjoy this game's story and focused gameplay. Male and female players alike should enjoy playing as Fetch, thanks to her strong characterization and entertaining powers. In addition, the look and sound of this title serve as a good reminder of what the current generation of consoles have to offer. Go ahead... dip your toes into the world of inFAMOUS with this title, and don't be scared to feel the neon. Fetch says it's tasty.
Fetch's story is a great tale of family bonds, hard times, and gives a much deeper look at a character that didn't get nearly enough exposition in Second Son. The focus on neon powers alone doesn't limit Fetch at all and a hefty set of challenges make First Light plenty to hold inFAMOUS fans over until we get the inevitable next game in the series. There isn't enough different here to convince anyone who didn't like Second Son, but for gamers who enjoyed Delsin's story, First Light feels like a more focused title, and adds greatly to what was already an awesome open world superhero series.
Infamous: First Light is a pretty great standalone expansion that manages to deliver a much nicer character than Delsin with more fleshed out powers. Unfortunately, the missions are pretty repetitive and weigh down the experience a fair bit. However, the challenge rooms and the touching story make up for them, to some extent.
Most likely due to the familiarity of the Second Son world I felt comfortable slipping back into it but the pull that kept me playing the first time around just wasn't there the second time. Despite that, however, the story and character of Abigail 'Fetch' Walker still kept me well invested in the game and made it an enjoyable re-visitation.
inFamous: First Light once again shows Sony makes some stellar content post-release. Being able to enjoy this adventure even without owning the original game is a huge plus. For those that might have parted ways with their original copy, this $15 continuation is more than worth the price of admission. It also helps that I actually enjoyed this piece of content more than the original game.
Full stop, inFamous: First Light is more Second Son, which is a good thing. Although I wasn't nearly as invested in Fetch as I was with Delsin's story, this is a great way for fans to return to the super-powered world of Seattle, and an even better way for newcomers to get a taste of the series.
While First Light comes up just a bit short compared to the full Second Son game, it's a fine continuation for the series, and a fresh take on what's happening within this universe. Now, if we could just get a co-op experience featuring "Fetch" and Delsin, we'd be all set.

Infamous First Light packs a whole bunch of content in at a decent price, and fleshes out Second Son's most interesting character in fine fashion, with a sibling story that tugs at the heartstrings thanks to another great performance from Bailey. It's an extension, perhaps, more than an expansion -- more of the same sort of thing, but with a slightly different flavour -- but given how much fun Second Son was, that's no bad thing.
Fetch is a great character, with an interesting back-story. The gameplay is solid and addictive, and with the inclusion of the arenas and challenges there is a decent amount of content on offer.
Whether you're new to inFamous or not, First Light is definitely worth looking into. The only reason you won't enjoy this is if you didn't get on with Second Son at all, and although there are some improvements, there's not enough difference here to convince those who dislike inFamous. The plot may fall flat at points and there might be a sense of repetition, but a return trip to Seattle isn't something you should turn down. And if you have never visited before, then what are you waiting for?
Fetch's origin story hits on several of the same notes as Delsin's tale – making it somewhat predictable – but the action is always great, and the final 20 minutes of this journey are exceptional
All in all, inFamous: First Light is a solid addition to the franchise that further showcases the technical excellence that Sucker Punch have been able to pull off so far. Whilst the story falls a bit flat in places, it's generally solid enough to carry you through it. The challenge rooms are a lot of fun and will put you through your paces as you try and best your friends' scores, and if you've not yet sampled any of the inFamous franchise, this is well worth a go as an introduction. A good example of DLC done right, inFamous: First Light sheds some brightly coloured neon light on areas of Second Son that were previously unknown to us all.
In the end inFAMOUS: First Light lacks a bit of variety in its main game, but considering its low retail price and form of delivery the game does seem to be worth the money if you're a fan of the franchise or are genuinely interesting in this form of gameplay.
First Light gives people new to Infamous an affordable way to see what the game is about as well as expanding the story and characters for veterans of the franchise. While limited to just neon powers, I enjoyed the backstory of Fetch and revisiting the beautiful rendering of Seattle.
inFamous: First Light feels almost like two games in one. One game has some good ideas, but tends to be a little dull and uneven. However, completing that first game is required to make the most out of the excellent second one. When playing through the story, the great controls and superb mechanics mean very little, because there isn't enough resistance to put them to work. However, the Survival Arena is absolutely wonderful. Not only is it loaded with thrilling encounters and satisfying action, it demands the player's attention. They're going to notice every moment, grab hold of every opportunity, and do whatever it takes just to survive a little longer.
It feels odd to say it, but I actually prefer First Light to Second Son. The shorter run-time and more direct story could have reduced the feeling of freedom, but instead it benefits almost every area of the game. As a standalone product, its low price and superb gameplay means that it's definitely recommended.
With around five hours of content and a more engaging story, inFamous: First Light is easy to recommend to players familiar with the universe. New players should consider starting elsewhere.
Unexpectedly, First Light's story campaign ends up being its weakest link. Compared to the depth and replayability of the score-driven combat arenas, Fetch Walker's origin story proves to be a bit of snoozefest, especially in the context of Second Son's respectable storytelling and mission design.
Infamous: First Light is a very fun standalone DLC that fans of the Infamous series will love despite only being able to use just the neon powers. While it may not do much to move the series forward it adds a great side story, and a surprisingly fun challenge mode.
For fans of the story, inFamous: First Light is somewhat dimmed by rewriting events and motivations, but it's carried along by Fetch's fast, agile gameplay and a strong closing chapter. It's not a must-play, but it's a good excuse to run another lap around Seattle.
inFAMOUS: First Light is simply more inFAMOUS; if you enjoy the games then we recommend you pick this up, however if you're not a fan then First Light won't change your opinion in the slightest. We enjoyed learning more about Fetch's past and her neon power in the game, however the battle arenas felt a little tacked on and there only to fulfil the role of adding a few more hours to your playtime. Fetch is one of the best things to come out of the two inFAMOUS games this year, and seeing her take centre stage in inFAMOUS: First Light proved how good of a character she really is. Fans love her and in turn will love inFAMOUS: First Light too, a game that we recommended to anyone with an interest in the series.
For newcomers, Infamous: First Light serves as a taste of the full experience in Second Son, complete with its highs and lows. Existing fans looking for more content will get the most out of this downloadable title, but will be disappointed that some of the concerns were not addressed.
If Infamous: Second Son didn't do anything for you, First Light won't either. While maneuvering through the city is greater than anything Sucker Punch has done before, and Fetch's family story helps expand her character, it's weighed down by its own lack of change.
If you were a fan of inFamous: Second Son, then First Light gives you more of the same with a neon twist. Fetch's fast-paced take on the neon power set makes her an entertaining protagonist to play as – especially in the frantic Battle Arenas. In many ways, this represents the brand stripped back to its very basics – and you'll need to decide whether that's enough for you.
For us, nothing in First Light ever really stood out. It's well polished, but plays it so safe that there wasn't anything to really love or hate. Perhaps using it as a taster before investing in the full fat Second Son experience is a good idea.
First Light's weird, limbo nature makes it a hard one to pin down. Considered as a DLC add-on, it's pretty generous and fans of Second Son will certainly appreciate the extra backstory and another chance to romp around Seattle. As a standalone game, it earns points for trimming the fat from the open-world template, but is also as generic as they come. First Light is an adequate diversion for fans but unlikely to dazzle anybody else.
Overall, First Light reminded me how much fun it is to spend time in an inFamous game, but I would have preferred a bit more originality with the mini-games and some life in the once vivid game world of Seattle. This standalone prequel is a nice touch for fans of Second Son, but there's absolutely nothing within to entice series newcomers to jump in.
The fundamentals of Second Son are present, obviously restricted to Fetch's flashy Neon abilities, which is fine since Neon was the most free-flowing and fun of Delsin's stolen powers to begin with.
Infamous: First Light takes an interesting, flawed character and does nothing with her. Even at $15, it's a vapid, empty, wasted opportunity. At least the combat is still fun, though.
