Join the ranks of Anthill, a gorgeous strategy game from Image & Form - the studio behind the SteamWorld series! By drawing pheromone trails, you direct your ground forces to different destinations, working with streams of units rather than individual ants. Much like a tower defense game, your mission is to protect the hill as wave upon wave of enemy bugs are thrown at you. The Nintendo Switch version is absolutely packed! It comes with the top-rated base game, all previously released DLC updates, a brand new soundtrack and is 100% dedicated to handheld play to boot - perfect for Nintendo Switch Lite! - Eat what you kill: Slay a bug with your soldiers, then direct your workers to bring back the carcass for dinner. Yum! - Surgical strikes: Direct bomber ants to perform air raids through hordes of bugs. Satisfaction guaranteed! - Upgrades: Turn your bombers into carpet bombers, inspire courage in your workers, and make your soldiers more brutal. Boo-ya! - Dedicated to handheld play: The intuitive touch controls are perfect for the Nintendo Switch screen.

Anthill Reviews

Anthill may be several years old at this point, but it's still a fun little game that showcases Image & Form's talents before the Steamworld series gathered, er... steam. There's a decent amount of depth here as you explore various strategies to defend your anthill, and there's good replay value with the delightful Infinity mode. It falls down a bit on graphics, as it can look a bit overly simplistic at times, and we would have at least liked the option to play on the TV, perhaps with pointer controls.

Strategically, the game certainly feels like a unique addition to the tower defense genre. However, the game isn't strategically priced. Anthill lacks some of the basic components you'd expect from a game on the Nintendo Switch, such as the ability to play multiplayer and play in both docked and handheld mode. Fortunately, though, you can listen to the brand new, divine original soundtrack.

As a real-time strategy game, Anthill provides a simplistic and enjoyable formula that can be quite a hoot in short bursts.

Anthill is a unique take on the ‘defense’ genre, having you draw and assign trails to units instead of placing towers. From such a simple concept comes an addictive and challenging game, one which will entertain you for many hours as you try and work out the most efficient and cost-effective way to proceed. I personally felt like the later levels spiked in difficulty, without any warning, but after going back and earning more stars to upgrade my ant colony, I began to progress again. It’s a brilliANT ANTdictive game which you’ll find hard to put down.
