Return to yesteryear in breathtaking style, with blazing, run-and-gun retro action in Azure Striker GUNVOLT, only on Nintendo 3DS family systems. Set in the near future, hero Gunvolt is one of a group of superhumans with ‘septimal powers’, the ability to control elements such as fire, or in Gunvolt’s case, electricity. Use every ability at your disposal to blow away opponents and overthrow the evil Sumeragi Group! Dive into 2D scrolling action to despatch enemies with your Conductor Gun. Tag your target to pinpoint successive shots, or engage a shocking sphere of crackling electricity called Flashfield to zap tagged enemies, levitate or use it as a shield! Watch your gauge, though, as the field only has a limited duration. If you need to take out multiple targets with a heavy-duty hit, call in Voltaic Chains to cover the screen with giant, electrified links that obliterate anything they touch! As well as the tautly-tuned gunplay, special abilities give you a boost throughout your one-man crusade: absorb and neutralise incoming bullets with Prevasion. Like your Flashfield, it has a limited duration, so play the long game in case of emergencies. If you should fall in battle, the pop star Lumen may bring you back with a resurrecting song, not only lending you a stay of execution, but massively boosting your offensive and defensive powers, too. As you battle your way through the sinister Sumeragi Group’s forces, the fight will inevitably become tougher. Upgrading your arsenal and support systems is the key to success – tag up to five, then eight enemies with new guns, Naga and Orochi. You can unleash a more-powerful Flashfield, increase your HP with experience points, and unlock new moves, such as a mid-air dash and double jump. Gather materials to forge equipment like rings and contact lenses, which uprate everything from Flashfield power to the effectiveness of healing items. Of course, old-school action is also about high scores, and in Azure Striker GUNVOLT’s Kudos system you rack up points based on damage dealt. Touch or get hit by an enemy and it resets to zero, so keep dodging, destroy double or triple-tagged enemies, and topple bosses to claim a chunky score at the end of each mission. Whether you play to see your name in lights or just for the pure thrill, you’re going to need all the help you can get if you hope to save the day in the furious, frenetic retro blaster, Azure Striker GUNVOLT, only on Nintendo 3DS family systems! - Hardcore platform action meets a deep combat system in this retro-inspired, run-and-gun blaster - Unleash a terrifying Flashfield to take down enemies at once, levitate, or shield yourself from incoming shots - Synthesise equipment to upgrade your powers, or absorb enemy shots with your Prevasion ability - Accrue monster scores by chaining your attacks or destroying targets simultaneously

Azure Striker Gunvolt Critic Reviews

In my final estimation, Azure Striker Gunvolt is a great game, and not just for Mega Man fans. It is a unique adventure with colorful characters, interesting battle mechanics and great music and art. Though some features feel poorly implemented, many more feel just right. Though the game might seem pricey at $14.99, I know of many other eShop games that cost far more for far less. Besides, if you purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt before November 28, you’ll also get Mighty Gunvolt for free, which is a great little extra. Casual gamers can technically beat the game in about three to four hours, but to get the good ending, and find all the hidden items, it should take significantly more time. I spent almost eight hours doing just that, and, given my desire to get S+ scores and beat all the challenges, I will easily be playing for at least another eight hours. I would highly recommend this game to fans of platformers, Japanese style games or just for somebody looking for a great eShop game. It’s not perfect, but it does a lot of things right. Now I will just have to patiently await Inti Creates to give us a release date on Azure Striker Gunvolt 2…
