Final Fantasy XIV players who have been inactive for awhile now have the chance to play the game free for a few days.

Final Fantasy XIV's free login event is available right now for those who have owned the game in the past. Any player with an account that has been inactive for at least 30 is eligible. Those players will be able to play the game for free for five days. This promotion will be available until January 14th, 2020.

This free login promotion is happening in the middle of Final Fantasy XIV's seasonal event, the Starlight Celebration. During the event, certain areas within home zones such as Gridania and Limsa Lominsa will be dressed with holiday decorations and festive music. Players will be able to find the NPC Amh Garanjy in Old Gridania to begin the level 15 holiday quest "All I Want for Starlight." Players will also be able to receive a number of holiday items, such as Starlight Roll Cake, Choir Concert Advertisement, and the Saintly Barding Chocobo armor. The Starlight Celebration will run through December 31st.

Final Fantasy XIV's upcoming Update 5.2, entitled "Echoes of a Fallen Star," was announced recently. The free update will come with a good amount of content, and will release sometime in mid-February. It will include new story content, a new dungeon, and a number of adjustments. It was also revealed that the Ruby Weapon from Final Fantasy VII will be making an appearance in a new Normal and Extreme Trial. Ruby Weapon was an optional boss found in Final Fantasy VII, and was the one of the toughest enemies in the game, second only to Emerald Weapon. Update 5.2 will release a few weeks before Final Fantasy VII Remake, making this a nice tie-in.

It was announced last week that Final Fantasy XIV has reached 18 million registered players. This milestone comes six years after the game was re-released under the A Realm Reborn moniker in 2013. A Realm Reborn was a complete rework of the original Final Fantasy XIV, which shutdown in 2012 due to being poorly received.

I have been playing video games for as long as I can remember. I am a huge fan of JRPGs, though I also enjoy fighters. I have been writing about video games for a few years now. If it has a great story, I am sure that I will dig it.
