Fed Up With Monster Hunter Wilds PC Performance, Fans Are Fixing It Themselves

Monster Hunter Wilds, despite its enormous success with a peak of over one million concurrent players, opened to mixed reviews on Steam due to its "atrocious performance".

Capcom's response did little to assure fans, as it claimed to have "polished [the] game as much as possible". Instead, it laid the responsibility on players, asking them to update their graphics drivers and readjust their settings.

At least most of the monsters in Wilds are brand new to the series, though.

Without acknowledging the problem, the buck has now been passed to several modders who have taken it upon themselves to make the game run better on PC.

VANIILAcoffee's work promises "better stability" by removing post-processing effects, optimising CPU load, and tweaking GPU settings. CyberGecko1, meanwhile, released an update to reduce stuttering by setting the core count "appropriately". And velasquez3589 put together several presets for the tool 'DLSS Swapper' which seek to boost performance. Judging by the comments, these have all worked to varying degrees.

It's unclear what's causing these performance issues. Several mods have addressed the problem by removing effects like fog and film grain to make the game less taxing, while others adjust the CPU load by...
