Despite Switch 2 Variable Pricing, Baldur's Gate 3's Publishing Director Says Defying Retail Norms Is "Liberating"

There have been plenty of reactions to the recent reveal of the Switch 2, but one thing synonymous is complaints regarding Nintendo’s high price point. With the base console reaching $449.99 and the Mario Kart World pack-in version costing $50 more, the Switch 2 will go down in history as Nintendo’s most expensive console release to date.

That said, console prices are only the tip of the iceberg; what some fans find most egregious are the $70-$80 price tags for Switch 2 games. While the original Switch would occasionally throw in a $70 title like Tears Of The Kingdom, the base price for most Switch 2 games is getting a massive increase.

One consistent point is that games have been priced at a definite $60 for many generations, and it may be time for that to change. Nintendo themselves have described the new era as “variable pricing,” where each game’s price will depend on an individual value Nintendo bestows upon it.
