NBA 2K21 Will Be More Expensive on Next Gen Consoles

News on the different editions of NBA 2K21 have informed us of several things today, including the (for now) unique pricing structure of the game and its trio of cover atheletes.

NBA 2K21 will be a cross-generational game, playable on current gen systems like Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Stadia while also coming later to next gen hardware such as Xbox Series X and PS5. Because the next gen version is being built from the ground up, it will also be $10 more expensive, with a suggested retail price of $69.99 at launch.

This price point offers a possible hint at what the next generation has in store for consumers, after the industry has affixed itself to the $59.99 price tag for many years.

On current gen systems, NBA 2K21 remains at that usual price, but both current and next gen versions offer a $99.99 special edition honoring the late Kobe Bryant. Called the Mamba Forever Edition, buyers who purchase this version of the game, which includes bonus digital items like a Sapphire Kobe Bryant MyTeam card and some cosmetics, can later upgrade to the next generation version of NBA 2K21 for no additional charge.

Short of buying that version, however, there is no other Smart Delivery-like offer available for NBA 2K21, confirmed a spokesperson for the game.

While Kobe will grace the cover of NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Editions, the game will feature two other cover stars in Damien Lillard on current gen platforms and Zion Williamson on next gen hardware. Collectively, 2K says Bryant, Lillard, and Williamson represent the past, present, and future of the league.

NBA 2K21 launches on current gen systems on September 4. It will later launch on Xbox Series X and PS5 this holiday season.
