Black Mesa is an officially recognized fan remake of Half-Life, Valve's iconic first-person shooter, and it's currently on sale for an exceptionally deep 90% discount. Crowbar Collective's remake was officially released in 2020, but is celebrating the 10th anniversary of it entering early access in 2015, and the game is now climbing Steam's purchase and player charts.

The Black Mesa sale has the game available for just $1.99 until May 19, and the low price is already causing an influx of players. Black Mesa has landed on the Steam Top Sellers chart, where it's currently surpassing the likes of more recent phenoms Palworld and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The remake was officially approved for release by Valve, and enjoys Overwhelmingly Positive status on Steam with more than an astounding 116,000 reviews.

Following the launch of the sale, Black Mesa has gone from a few hundred concurrent players a few days ago to nearly exceeding 4,000, according to Steam Charts. The last time Black Mesa had more than 4,000 concurrent players was in October 2024. Its all-time peak was in March 2020, when its full release occurred after five years in early access.
