It's a strange sensation, walking around knowing the end is nigh. It's not something people experience often, but for the devs who'd dedicated themselves to the ZeniMax MMO that Microsoft ended up canceling, it's all too real.
And still, somehow, this is better than the alternative.
ZeniMax Online Studios United (aka ZOSU) is a workers union representing employees for the Elder Scrolls Online, and the project once known as 'Blackbird' - the now-doomed MMO. Recently, they released a statement on the matter, offering insight on the world behind Microsoft's curtain.
There is good news: where many people expected that Blackbird's development staff would simply be out of work, this is not the case. But there is also bad news: for some devs, they won't be devs for long.
"Earlier this month, Microsoft indefinitely shelved an unannounced MMORPG at ZeniMax Online Studios, a shock to the 222 ZOSU-CWA developers working on the project," The statement reads (via IGN). "It has been heartening and validating to see our game mentioned in the press and by players that would have loved to see the results of our work."
