Nintendo Switch 2 Edges Closer To Being Fully Backwards Compatible

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched with an impressive catalogue of backwards compatible games. Almost every title from the original console can be played on the newer hardware, making the transition between generations almost seamless.

However, there are, of course, games that don't work on Switch 2 yet, and others that technically do, but are plagued with issues. Thankfully, ever since launch, the console giant, along with third-party developers, has been working to remedy this issue, bringing even more of the original Switch's library to its successor while also working to iron out several bugs with existing games.

Only a tiny fraction of original Switch games are incompatible as of June 2025.

As reported by Nintendo Everything, over 20 games have been 'fixed' for the Switch 2 this month alone. Included among them are the iconic puzzle platformer Portal 2, the hit real-time strategy game Northgard, and roguelike rhythm gem Crypt of the NecroDancer. Once you've installed the latest system update, these games—and 21 others—should run a lot smoother.
