Blockbuster Star Wars Game Sequel Reportedly Canceled, Disney Blamed For Low Sales

A sequel to Star Wars Outlaws has reportedly been canceled, and Ubisoft has been offloading some of the blame. The 2024 action-adventure game follows smuggler Kay Vess across multiple hives of scum and villainy in the galaxy far, far away, and while it was generally well-received, sales were not up to publisher Ubisoft's expectations.

Industry insider Tom Henderson, from Insider Gaming, recently spoke on the site's podcast claiming Ubisoft has canceled the in-development sequel to Star Wars Outlaws (via Push Square). Henderson has generally reliable information, especially regarding Ubisoft projects. The reported cancellation comes just days after Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot blamed the current state of Disney's Star Wars brand for Outlaws' poor sales performance.

Star Wars Outlaws had a lot of expectations behind it, billed as the first ever open-world game in the franchise. Players can openly explore a handful of new and iconic planets while making connections in the galaxy's criminal underworld. Star Wars has long been a powerhouse media franchise, but the name recognition apparently wasn't enough to meet Ubisoft's goals.

With Star Wars Outlaws just launching late last year, the supposed sequel would likely have been in the earliest stages of development....
