Rocket League reset its seasons when it went free to play earlier this year, and Season 2 is now upon us. Here's what to expect, including the new car, R3MX and the new stadium, Neon Fields and the rest of the always lengthy patch notes for a new season.
For many players, the highlight is the new battle-car, which players unlock right away with purchase of the premium Rocket Pass. This time it's R3MX. You'll get the standard edition at level 1 of the premium tier, while climbing to level 70 will unlock the now customary GXT variant of the Rocket Pass battle-car. The vehicle's name plays right into some of the other marquee changes to this season.
The Rocket Pass is loaded with dozens of music-themed items to unlock throughout the season, while the game's ever-growing soundtrack features several new tracks from performer Kaskade. Psyonix says this partnership with Kaskade comes via their longtime partners at Monstercat, the online EDM music station, and other featured artists will arrive throughout the season. Season 1 Competitive rewards have gone out to eligible players while Season 2 Competitive rewards have opened up for the weeks ahead.
With that comes a new player customization item, Player Anthems. Now when you score, make an epic save, or earn MVP, the game will play your customizable Player Anthem until someone else's in-game feat disrupts it. The best players will thus basically have control of the game's figurative aux cord. A new arena comes to Rocket League for the first time in a while in the form of Neon Fields, yet another rave music-themed element to Season 2. With pulsating light shows around the stadium, it may give players that jolt of a live music atmosphere so many have been without in our pandemic year.
As for the rest of the update, and you can view the lengthy list of changes in the game's official patch notes. Rocket League is free to play across PC, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms. Season 2 is live now.
