I've long held that it's sage advice to check out the original Final Fantasy prior to beginning your journey with the ongoing Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. If you can't handle its older styles of gameplay, then watch a no-commentary longplay, maybe. I don't know. Just do the thing. There's so much in the Remakes that relies upon presumed familiarity with the classic story beats in order to maximize its impact, and pretty much everything to do with the controversial Whispers will make even less sense without that context.
But that's just me, and I'm just one fan. Naoki Hamaguchi, the hard-working and altogether amiable fellow who has directed both Remake and Rebirth (and continues to do so with the as-yet untitled third chapter), feels otherwise. Or, at least, he doesn't feel too strongly about it either way, but he has his own brand of sage advice, which is to consider rolling with the Remakes first, then moving backward to that OG PlayStation phenomenon.
