Path to Menzoberranzan is that project for Baldur's Gate 3. You know, that one ultra-ambitious conversion project with a massive team that's years from release, but everyone follows excitedly in hope of an eventual release.

It's reminiscent of Skyrim's Forgotten City or Morrowind's Tamriel Rebuilt — two massively popular mods for their respective games. Path to Menzoberranzan is a custom campaign for Baldur's Gate 3, taking the player to the drow capital via some locations from previous Baldur's Gate games.

So far, we've mostly seen recreations of the city of Athkatla from the opening section of Baldur's Gate 2. The final product will feature many more locations, entirely new companions and an original narrative.

The final release is years away, but a new announcement on the mod's Discord reveals the team is planning to release a playable alpha level in the first half of next year. The released level will be the mod's tutorial section, and is comparable in size to Baldur's Gate 3's own tutorial level, the Nautiloid.

This Nautiloid-sized level will be the first of several regular content updates the team is planning to release over the next few years.
