Earlier this year, not long after we were told that Dragon Quest 7 is getting its second (!) remake in time for its 25th anniversary, there was substantial apprehension over the developers' decision to truncate the game's main story in a bid to "streamline" a very long game - even by Dragon Quest standards. Response has been mixed, with some pointing out that the original and even its slightly-shortened 3DS remake were overly lengthy, and others (myself included) lamenting the removals.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined's lead writer recently explained the choice, but worries have continued to mount among those who have always treasured the title's more vignette-style, episodic, slow-burn approach to storytelling. While today's batch of hands-on previews across numerous media outlets won't do a ton to ease that specific concern, there's still cause for celebration among Estard-lovers and newcomers the world over: the reception from those lucky enough to experience a few hours with Reimagined has largely been plenty positive.
