It has been a long road for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord fans. The game first launched in early access in 2020 and the new DLC, War Sails, is the first major content update. It's been a running joke in the community for some time that every new patch brings bug fixes but nothing else, and that the game is still in desperate need of some fundamental additions.
The AI-generated "leak" got over 8 million views.
So when it was announced that the War Sails DLC would be introducing naval combat for the first time, and a new faction of the Nords to boot, fans were obviously excited. However, it appears the DLC has some pretty major flaws.
At the time of writing, War Sails is rated as Mixed on Steam with a split of around 60/40 for positive and negative reviews respectively. As you'd expect, there's a real mix here: some players have complained about the buggy state of the DLC, others about the forced quests being awful. There are also a few mentions of the price ($25) being too high for what you actually get in the DLC.
