16 years after Left 4 Dead 2, a true spiritual successor hasn't really stepped up to fill the void left by Valve's beloved zombie co-op shooter, but a new contender appears to be on the way. One of the more promising candidates, Back 4 Blood, quickly became less popular than L4D2, despite the latter being over a decade old at the time.
Original Left 4 Dead and L4D2 designer Mike Booth is now returning to the co-op shooter genre as director of the first full-fledged, in-house title from Bad Robot Games. The project has caught the attention of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which will produce and publish the untitled game. According to an SIE press release, "The game is currently in deelopment for PlayStation 5 and PC."
Bad Robot, the production company founded by Lost creator JJ Abrams, has more recently ventured into video game development, but has only assisted on a few projects, notably Weird West, Moonbreaker, and Silent Hill: Ascension.
