It's been a big year for horror franchises like Silent Hill and Fatal Frame. The former series relocated to a small Japanese village with the successful Silent Hill f, and the latter unveiled Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake for release in 2026. That should already be enough to occupy fans, but if there's room for one more, a new indie game could pick up the slack.

An announcement trailer from developer Endflame reveals the upcoming horror game Silent Road, which takes place "deep within a remote Japanese forest region." Rather than wandering around with a crowbar, players take on the role of a taxi driver ferrying strange passengers through unnerving environments. The game is set to release on PC via Steam, with a Steam demo coming in the near future.

Silent Road's name invokes Silent Hill, but the trailer doesn't make the game look quite as grimy in nature. Nonetheless, the rural Japanese setting (along with the press release itself) invites comparisons to Silent Hill f and Fatal Frame, and the vague middle distance depicted in trailer footage recalls the effect of Silent Hill's trademark oppressive fog.
