Turns Out Borderlands 4's Launch Sales Weren't So Soft After All

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously suggested Borderlands 4 sales didn't take off quite as quickly as he and the company had hoped. Either things have changed, or Take-Two has sky-high expectations, as the latest Borderlands title is one of the best-selling games of 2025.

That's according to the latest data from Circana, shared by Mat Piscatella. While Battlefield 6 tops the chart with NBA 2K26 right behind it, and then Monster Hunter Wilds in third, which, despite its bad press, sold ten million copies in less than a month, Borderlands 4 is right up there with them. The fourth best-selling game of the year in the US, outselling some very big titles.

The most notable omission from those heaviest hitters is Call of Duty. While both Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 are in the top ten, both were outsold by Borderlands 4. The latest Madden and College Football games have also fallen short of Gearbox's latest game, which, since these numbers are US only, where those games perform best, is particularly impressive.

Whether it's a letdown or a GOTY contender, Borderlands 4 will be fascinating to discuss.
