BioWare Legend Leaves Exodus Before The Game Even Releases

Exodus—an upcoming science-fiction space opera featuring Matthew McConaughey—doesn't yet have a release date. It's the debut project of Archetype Entertainment, a studio under the Wizards of the Coast umbrella founded in 2019 under the leadership of BioWare veteran James Ohlen.

Ohlen worked as a lead designer and creative director on games like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age: Origins. After leaving BioWare to run his own book publishing company in 2018, he was tempted back into the industry by Wizards of the Coast in 2019 when they offered him a leading role at Archetype.

However, Ohlen has now departed Archetype Entertainment over a year before Exodus is supposed to release. Wizards of the Coast provided a statement to Bloomberg on the matter, saying Ohlen felt his work was complete at the studio.

"At this stage, James felt his work on the game was complete and that the polishing and turning were in great hands with the team," said Abby Hodes, Hasbro's vice president of corporate communications.
