DOS Zone has been working tirelessly for years to make a bucket list of classic games readily available online, from the original Doom and Diablo to the Oregon Trail, but their newest addition is their most impressive yet. The team have now ported the entirety of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to modern web browsers, allowing you to unknot the Floridian crime saga of Tommy Vercetti from the comfort of a second tab.
"The engine has been completely reworked and carefully adapted to run smoothly inside the browser," they explain in the game's description. "Low-level systems such as rendering, input handling, audio, and file access were redesigned to work efficiently with WebAssembly and modern browser APIs, delivering stable performance without native installation."
When it comes to projects like these, the thorn in their side is often Rockstar itself. The Scottish-based developer is notorious for clamping down on mods and other fan projects; this year alone, it vetoed the community's efforts to recreate GTA 6's map within GTA 5 and struck a trailer for the fan-made Vice City: Next-Gen Edition, while the Liberty City remake was taken down after "speaking with Rockstar Games".
It's a risk...
