Resident Evil has had a long and storied history, with tons of hits under its belt. Even "duds" like Resident Evil 6 still sold like gangbusters, but there have been a few canceled games over the years that never saw the light of day.

Thanks to the preservation efforts of Games That Weren't, we now have the chance to play a potential classic that seems like it wouldn't be possible on the planned hardware.

Wildly, Resident Evil Gaiden wasn't the only Resident Evil Game Boy Color game planned in the '90s. Apparently, there was a full conversion of the original Resident Evil game on PS1, but it never saw the light of day. Until now.

Not only is Resident Evil for the Game Boy Color playable thanks to the efforts of Games That Weren't, but we also know there were "many delays and struggles" that prevented it from actually releasing. Quite a bit is preserved, against all odds, like pre-rendered backgrounds, dialogue, and even the game's puzzle elements. Despite the technical limitations involved, it seems like this is an incredibly faithful portable port.
