Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks have become a sort of 'Boy Who Cried Wolf' situation over the past few years. Social media has been inundated with people claiming they talked to someone from Rockstar's brother's dog who told them that Carl "CJ" Johnson is returning as the game's primary antagonist, and Rockstar is waiting until X showcase to reveal it.

Because of the number of supposed leaks on the internet, the community has been very sceptical about anyone who claims to have an inside source at Rockstar. However, there are employees within the studio who are leaking details about GTA 6, and Rockstar admitted as much during its ongoing legal case against a group of laid-off workers, who claim they were fired for trying to unionise.

Rockstar claims an employee based in the United States was let go in November 2023 for leaking information to a third party that wound up on social media.
