Anthem is going offline today, bringing the live service to an end after almost seven years.
While it was nowhere near the success EA wanted it to be, it amassed some dedicated fans, many of whom would have been playing up until the final moments. With the servers being pulled, Anthem will be left completely unplayable, killing it for good.
Launching on February 22, 2019, Anthem was a huge disappointment to both fans and critics alike. Put simply, it was not what anyone was looking for in a BioWare game, and it proved to be a frustrating, half-baked experiment with a live service model that didn't suit the studio at all.
There were plans to give Anthem a huge overhaul, turning its fortunes around as we have seen with other games like No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, and Final Fantasy 14. However, these were scrapped around two years after Anthem's launch. With no new story content coming, the chances of Anthem getting a second chance became even lower, and true enough, it faded from the conversation altogether.
