Ubisoft's Avatar Studio Hit With Layoffs Right After Frontiers Of Pandora's Player Count Hit Record Highs

Ubisoft will be restructuring its Massive Entertainment studios in Sweden, the developers responsible for The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The restructuring will result in layoffs, as approximately 55 people are expected to lose their jobs.

Reported by Gamesindustry.biz, news of Ubisoft's Massive restructuring comes from an internal email at the studio detailing the publisher's plans. The email notes that the job losses are not related to performance, but are rather a result of restructuring, confirming that "the long-term direction for the studios remains unchanged."

As upsetting as it is to hear of layoffs anywhere in the industry, the part about plans remaining unchanged will be a slim silver lining for fans of The Division. The Division 3 was announced by Ubisoft in 2023, and even though the team working on it will seemingly be smaller, it sounds like the game is still in development and work on it will continue as planned.

The layoff news also comes days after a Ubisoft producer proudly declared the next Division game will have as big of an impact as the first.
