Surprise, Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Big New Update Has Gone Live A Day Earlier Than Announced

The announcement of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' big 3.0 update was a huge surprise. After Nintendo had confirmed that the last major update, which included new villagers, DIY recipes, and Brewster's Cafe, would be the last, it shocked the world in October by revealing it had one more big update planned for the game.

That update was scheduled to release on Thursday, January 15. But, as it did with the previous update, Nintendo has sprung one final AC: NH surprise on fans, by dropping version 3.0 early— and it's available now.

It was always a surprise when Nintendo announced it was ending support for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game is the storied developer's fifth-best-selling of all time, with only Wii Sports, Mario Kart 8, Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, and Super Mario Bros. selling more.

It's one that will live on in the pantheon of Nintendo greats and helped millions of players through the pandemic, so ending support so soon after launch was a shocker. Thankfully, version 3.0 was announced, giving the title a new lease of life.
