Bully Online, the ambitious community-led project that brought multiplayer to Rockstar's rebellious high school classic, has been shutdown.
As reported by Insider Gaming, the mod launched last month behind a Ko-Fi paywall. While the team hasn't divulged why the project was taken offline, considering that even free mods draw Rockstar's ire, you can guess what might've happened.
"The Bully Online project is shutting down forever, which unfortunately means all the following is going to happen in 24 hours," YouTuber and project lead Swegta said. "Our official Bully Online servers (on swegta.com) will be shutdown, development of scripts for Bully Online will stop, the source code will be removed from swegta.com, all our webpages referring to it will be removed, the launcher downloads will be taken down, and all Bully Online account data will be permanently deleted."
For now though, know this was not something we wanted.
While we don't know what went on behind-the-scenes, Swegta did say that "this was not something we wanted," all but confirming that the team were pressured into wiping any trace of Bully Online from the internet.
