The Switch 2 quickly became one of Nintendo's top-selling systems within the first six months of launch, as it topped over four million units sold in Japan alone as of January 11. This put the Switch 2 ahead of the GameCube's total sales figures in Japan. However, Switch 2 sales suffered a slight snag during the holiday shopping season.
