Marathon Is The Latest Release To Have A Confusing Collector's Edition That Doesn't Include The Actual Game

The Marathon hype train officially left the station on Monday, for real this time, as pre-orders for PlayStation's next crack at live service opened alongside its release date reveal. Bungie's first game since Destiny 2 is even getting a collector's edition, but tread carefully when you place your pre-order or you might be left without a copy of Marathon come March 5.

That's because Marathon has continued an unfortunate trend of collector's edition releases that don't include a copy of the actual game. If you head to PlayStation Direct right now, you'll find Marathon's collector's edition for $189.99. A lot of money, but on the surface, a worthwhile deal for anyone who plans on being all in on this game.

The $190 CE comes with a silkworm miniature, collectible art cards you won't get anywhere else, and best of all, a 1/6th scale statue of Thief from the game kitted out in LEDs. That's what drives the price up, and it's the statue that has potential Marathon fans thinking this particular CE might be worth shelling out for.
