Former Pokemon World Champion Predicts Mega Excadrill Will Be Busted Once It's Free From Legends: Z-A

Mega Excadrill is one of almost 50 mega evolutions only available in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. None of these Pokémon are currently available for VGC, the series' competitive format, as VGC is currently being played on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

However, the upcoming release of Pokémon Champions (scheduled for an unknown date in 2026) is going to change that. Champions is a successor to Pokémon Stadium, i.e. a game centred completely around battling. Champions will be the permanent home of competitive Pokémon battling going forward, a massive change for the ever-growing VGC community.

According to 2016 Pokémon World Champion (and perhaps the greatest player of all time) Wolfe Glick, Mega Excadrill has the potential to be a meta staple when Pokémon Champions releases.

"Excadrill has a history of being an incredible Pokémon in competitive play," Glick announces. The mole's mega version gains additional power in Attack (+35), Defence (+40), Special Attack (+15) and Speed (+25). The boost to attack and speed are particularly potent as base Excadrill is already a heavy hitter. However, there's a big question mark surrounding how well Mega Excadrill will transition to traditional Pokémon battling.
