Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is right around the corner. Launching on February 5, the game aims to revisit a 26-year-old classic (which just so happened to already receive one remake in the form of 2013's 3DS version), tightening things up with the removal of certain content whilst potentially making up for it with new fare.
It's a delicate balancing act, and it remains to be seen whether Square Enix and development partner HEXADRIVE will manage to pull it off. But we're getting a few DLC packs, most notably "The Road to Regal Wretches." The delightfully-titled optional content pits players against some familiar faces whom they may well have just recently clashed against.
"Challenge legendary demon kings from the DRAGON QUEST series’ Erdrick Trilogy in the Battle Arena," Nintendo's store page declares. Who are these demon kings? None other than the final bosses from the first three games in the series - all of which having been lovingly remade over the past year-and-change. In 2024, there was Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake; this was followed with last year's excellent Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake.
