Fable Lead Says It's Not A Fantasy Game, But A Fairytale

Fable is finally back! Last night's Xbox showcase revealed a deeper look at Playground Game's revival of the beloved series. We got to see the game's combat, Richard Ayoade's giant corpse, a means to becoming a landlord, and a whole bunch of other things. Of course, Playground founder Ralph Fulton wanted to capture the essence of the original series.

They deduced that two major pillars made the original series so beloved. The first was that Fable isn't a fantasy game, it's a fairy tale. And yes, there is a difference. The second pillar, according to Fulton, is the quintessential "Britishness" of the game.

In a conversation with IGN, Fulton elaborated on these two pillars while stressing on why they're so important. "We actually inherited this from Lionhead," he said about Fable being a fairytale. "We had this treasure trove of documents which had been in storage, that came originally from Lionhead. And one of them had this incredibly neat little bit of direction, which was Fable is fairytale, not fantasy, which I just think is brilliant, incredibly incisive and speaks to really tonally what Fable is.
