In Less Than 24 Hours, Highguard Has Already Dipped Below 10,000 CCU On Steam

Highguard launched yesterday, and what could have been a huge comeback story seems to have only added to the ridicule. The servers were so clogged that no one could get in, which was almost a good omen, until people did get in, and complained of performance issues - and then just a general distaste for the game.

Now, we're seeing a huge launch day drop off. After peaking at an impressive 97,249 concurrent players on Steam, that dropped overnight to just 8,389, and it hasn't recovered nearly as much as we could expect in its launch week.

At the time of writing, the playerbase is recovering from a quiet night, but not by much. The concurrent player count on Steam sits at 16,567, meaning it is nowhere near the most played games on the platform right now - or even the top 100 games - despite all of the publicity.

But to not get so doom and gloom for a moment, this might not be as bad as it seems. There was always going to be this initial wave of morbid curiosity, given that Highguard had been a running joke because of the devs' radio silence since The Game Awards....
