There's some steep new competition rising up the ranks on Steam right now, overtaking War Thunder, Deadlock, and even Stardew Valley, and it's probably not what you're expecting. With a 24-hour peak concurrent of 112,906 players, FiveM is one of the hottest new releases on the platform. Only, it hasn't been released on Steam yet.

FiveM is a modification for Grand Theft Auto 5 that enables you to play custom GTA Online servers — it's primarily used for roleplay. Rockstar acquired the team behind this ambitious project, Cfx.re, in 2023, and there have been murmurs of a planned Steam launch ever since that would hopefully streamline the download process.

Until now, the only way to use FiveM and access custom servers was by downloading the software from the team's website, but now, you can boot it up from your library as you would GTA 5; however, it still doesn't have a store page — the only way to add it to your library is by entering 'Steam://install/2676230' into your browser.

Regardless, FiveM has accrued an all-time peak of 120,000 players, surpassing both GTA 5 Legacy and GTA 5 Enhanced this week.
