Heads up, Final Fantasy fans: there's a nonzero chance you'll be waiting a while to get the PC version of Final Fantasy 7's myriad excellent mods back and running if you purchase the upcoming new version of the game. Which, uh, we don't know much about yet, but hey, here's where I reported on it.

That's because the new version might very well be utilizing a separate recompile, which puts modders' hard-worked content back on the drawing board until further notice. Bear in mind, this isn't guaranteed. But considering the original version of the Steam release, henceforth referred to by Square Enix themselves as "Final Fantasy 7: 2013 Edition," will no longer be available for purchase once its replacement is out on the digital market, it may be prudent to snag that one ahead of time if you've not already done so.
