If you make a game with a first-person perspective, there are probably going to be people asking why it wasn't in third-person, and vice-versa. It's just a fact about the gaming industry. Just look at how many perspective-changing mods there are. Fans certainly felt the same way about Cyberpunk 2077.

With the amount of customizations you can make to V, and all the cool gear, fans were pretty disappointed that it didn't feature a third-person perspective like The Witcher 3, or at least a toggle. While CD Projekt Red probably had its reasons, the creative director of the sequel thinks the first-person perspective works better.

As spotted by GamesRadar+, Cyberpunk 2 creative director Igor Sarzyński took to Bluesky, speaking about why first-person perspective wouldn't work for Cyberpunk 2077. "Purely from narrative design [point of view] I think subjective FPP works well with '77 story, genre and world," he said. "You're a mind trapped in a decaying body with only means of leaving it being through technological consciousness processing (cyberspace; soulkiller; projection into external devices; braindaces)."
