The Killing Stone, the upcoming "occult horror deckbuilder" from South Park: Snow Day! developer Question, won't be launching as a 1.0 release later this month anymore, but as an Early Access project instead.
According to a new press release, the "difficult decision" to launch in Early Access was made owing to the team's desire to implement "more story" and "more voice-acted content" in accordance with feedback suggesting players are "especially invested" in The Killing Stone's "narrative layer".
Studio co-owner and narrative director Jordan Thomas says the game has become "more story-forward" than the team initially envisioned, and so extra time is needed in order to ensure the story allows players to "puzzle out what's going on without being spoon-fed".
Thomas says that the ways in which The Killing Stone has evolved have prompted a "more collaborative launch approach", and that players can now "help [Question] shape the story and deckbuilding systems at the heart" of the game during its Early Access period.
