Nintendo President Just Starts Talking About Mario When Asked If There Are Plans For Zelda's 40th Birthday

The Legend of Zelda turns 40 this year, and even though its anniversary is right around the corner, Nintendo hasn't revealed what it has planned, if anything, to mark the occasion. Even when Nintendo's president was asked directly during the company's latest earnings call, Shuntaro Furukawa went off on a Mario tangent instead.

Furukawa was asked if Nintendo has anything planned to celebrate the 40th and 30th anniversaries of The Legend of Zelda and Pokemon, respectively, both of which fall a week apart towards the end of February. The Nintendo president's answer has been translated from Japanese into English by VGC, but there isn't really anything in there for Zelda and Pokemon fans to get excited about.

"As we have already announced during the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary, in addition to releasing several new titles, we are also pursuing initiatives beyond games, including the theatrical release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," Furukawa replied. "As the film’s release nears, we hope even more people will take the opportunity to play Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, which we launched last year."
