Overwatch players, brace yourselves: the hero roster is set to get a flurry of furry whimsy on February 10. Today's Overwatch Spotlight confirmed we're finally getting Jetpack Cat. Yes, there really is going to be a cat hero, and yes, she comes with a jetpack.
In a group interview at Blizzard HQ, associate game director Alec Dawson told me why Blizzard decided it was finally time for a flying cat: the team wanted to embrace unexpected hero ideas and give players something delightfully offbeat.
“I think our community was pretty vocal about, hey, we want you to return to making some more off-the-wall style heroes. And I think Jetpack Cat is that example [that] Overwatch just a lot of times is about the unexpected. So we're really happy that that sort of character can cut through in terms of the fantasy of what you're playing.”
Jetpack Cat, her real name Fika, is officially categorized as a support hero, but don't expect this kitty to sit idly by.
