We May Not Get A Fallout 3 Remaster, But Fans Are Once Again Trying To Revive The Lost Van Buren Project

At this point I think even Bethesda isn't sure if it's making remasters for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. We've got plenty of hints or teasers to suggest that they're in the works. From Steam glitches to ads for the show, and even an anticlimactic countdown, fans have pointed at anything and everything as proof of the remasters' imminent announcement.

While we'll just have to wait and see if the remasters are real, fans have decided to revive the original version of Fallout 3. Back in the early 2000s, Black Isle Studios was working on what would have been Fallout 3, codenamed Van Buren. Unfortunately, it never saw the light of day and the studio was shut down. Fallout: The New West is a fan-made project to revive the lost game in New Vegas (thanks, PC Gamer).

This isn't the first time Fallout fans have tried to revive the project. A few years ago, Project Van Buren aimed to recreate the game from the ground-up. However, The New West aims to do the same as a rehaul mod in New Vegas. The reason: many of the original Van Buren's assets were repurposed for the game.
