The Boycott Clearly Didn't Work, Because Ghost Of Yotei Outsold Tsushima

Ghost of Yotei has officially outsold Ghost of Tsushima in the same period of time. That's according to Sony, who in a recent webcast revealed that the title played a significant part in the company's financial results. It's unclear what Sony means by the same time period, but it's probably the first three months since the launch of the game.

All of this was despite the fact that a few people wanted to boycott the game over its female protagonist Atsu. In fact, things even got as far as actor Erika Ishii being harassed. It's clear that none of those boycott threats actually worked, as the sequel has been performing better than the beloved first game.

"In the studio business, Ghost of Yotei, a tentpole title we released in October, exceeded the sales of the previous title in the same period of time and significantly contributed to the financial results of the quarter," said Sony chief financial officer, Lin Tao (via IGN). "Our established live service titles like Helldivers 2 and MLB The Show also contributed stable recurring revenue."
