Resident Evil Requiem Is The Highest Rated Original Game In The Series In Over 20 Years

The countless trailers, the Leon tease, the endless discussions about how good it's going to look on Nintendo Switch 2. All of that is almost over, as this Friday, Resident Evil Requiem will be released. The first new, non-remake entry in the iconic horror series in almost five years, and if its review scores are anything to go by, it more than lives up to the hype.

Requiem currently has a 90 on OpenCritic and an almost as impressive 88 on Metacritic. Those scores are not only high, but they are the highest a Resident Evil game has scored outside of Capcom's recent run of remakes since 2005. The last original Resident Evil game to score higher was Resident Evil 4 with a 96, which, no matter how good Requiem is, it was never going to live up to.

Here at TheGamer, Jade King awarded Requiem a 4/5. "It’s reached a point where anxiety-inducing horror and over-the-top explosive action can exist in tandem rather than cannibalising one another into tragic irrelevance," King writes in her review, noting Requiem's survival horror gameplay is a new peak for the series.
