Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy might sound like a strange name at first blush. Because it is. But the fighting-style Final Fantasy spinoff series' best entry, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, comes with the disclaimer that "012" is pronounced "Duodecim." It's never been straightforward. This is hardly an issue.
Yet, everything about Dissidia Duellum, which launches next month for iOS and Android devices, is weird. Three-versus-three team boss battle arena; get used to that description, because that's what we're in store for. It's Final Fantasy characters in a modern, real-world, setting. Texting each other on their way to competing to beat up bosses before other characters players can do the same. It's Lightning sporting modern-day fashion, which, yes, if you made it all the way through all three installments of Final Fantasy XIII, you've technically already seen. But Zidane's got it going on, too.
