ESRB Rating Points To Last-Gen Marathon Ports

Marathon launches later today at 6pm GMT/10am PST for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but a new ESRB rating hints that last-gen ports may also be in the works.

As reported by Insider Gaming, while Bungie hasn't announced that it's making Marathon compatible with older hardware, the new rating lists PlayStation 4 and Xbox One among its supported platforms.

This could be a mistake on ESRB and Bungie's part, or it could point to future plans. However, given the requirements to play Marathon, it's hard to imagine how well it would run on last-gen consoles.

While not evidence that such ports are in the works, it is worth noting that PlayStation reportedly intends to continue launching its live-service games on Xbox and PC, despite plans to stop publishing its single-player flagships on rival platforms. This might indicate that Sony wants to expand its multiplayer reach as much as possible, and last-gen ports would help with Marathon's longevity much as cross-platform support will.

I'm having a good time with Marathon, but something about the game feels off.
