The rather prosaically-named Game Studio and publisher Bandai Namco have announced Echoes of Aincrad, a single-player action RPG set in the world of popular anime and manga series Sword Art Online.
Due to launch on July 10th this year, Echoes of Aincrad will give you the chance to create a custom protagonist to experience the world, so you won't be playing as existing protagonists Kirito and Asuna.
Echoes of Aincrad is immediately notable for not featuring the Sword Art Online name anywhere in its title; that seems to me to be a deliberate choice, perhaps one that implies the game will be a good jumping-in point for anyone who hasn't checked the anime or manga out before.
This is, of course, far from the only Sword Art Online game out there, but where existing spinoffs and tie-in games often seem to require advance knowledge of the story told so far in Sword Art Online, Echoes of Aincrad looks more like a fresh start.
