We Finally Know Why Pokopia's Peakychu Looks Sick, And It'll Break Your Heart

Pokemon Pokopia launched yesterday and was well received by critics and fans alike. In fact, it's currently tied with Pokemon Y as the best reviewed Pokemon game of all time. Clearly, there's something joyful about building a Pokemon community in a post-apocalyptic world. However, not everything about Pokopia is joyful.

One of the special Pokemon you can come across is Peakychu, a rather pale Pikachu with drooping ears and a smaller tail. It looks like it's unwell, but seems happy enough in the game. However, it turns out that Peakychu has a rather tragic backstory, and fans can't help but cry their eyes out.

It turns out Peakychu looks like this because it used up all its power by constantly sharing it with other sick Pikachu. The poor darling lost its bright yellow colour, rosy cheeks, and even the size of its tail because it was helping out friends in need. Damn these ninjas cutting onions!

Fans can't seem to handle this sad backstory, especially since it involves the IP's lovable mascot. "Isn’t this game meant for children? Why is everything so traumatic?" commented one player on Twitter. "That's so sweet of this Pokemon to do that for anybody,"...
